Nothing has changed in this ancient studio since Paul Cézanne passed away and his paintings were removed. Time has laid a veil of fine dust over it, as the Provençal heat has almost mineralized the wood of the furniture, of his easel and of the floorboards, long stained with colours, oil paints and turpentine.
The scented candle Dans l’atelier de Cézanne was created for Vincent Beaurin’s exhibition Le Spectre in Cézanne’s studio in Aix-en-Provence, 4th July to 29th August 2010. It is the first time the studio is taken over by a contemporary artist for the duration of an exhibition.
To perfect his proposition of connecting with the past or the invisible, Vincent has asked his friend Olivia Giacobetti to bring out the essences of the place. The scent has been diffused in the painter’s studio, during two months.
The scented candle Dans l’atelier de Cézanne is an edition of this perfume. It allows this experience to last, beyond geographical boundaries. This scent of time and place is contained in a natural-coloured wax, gently tinged by the added fragrances, soft as linseed oil.
Packaged and wrapped in a padded envelope; the story of the candle is told in French and in English on the front.
