Nothing enhances flavor more than simple salt and pepper. Shake a little crystalline NaCl and the grinds from the fruit of a dried piper negrum plant (salt and pepper) onto your food and nearly everything tastes better. The vessel with which you shake said flavor enhancer matters nearly as much as the spice itself! Pinch it out of a bowl? Please. Grind it by hand? Who has the time?
